Enyimba International FC coach, Olarinwaju, claims: "We are still the best team in Nigeria" ahead of Matchday 11 of the 2024/2025 Nigerian Premier League.

Posted : 11 November 2024

In spite of their goalless draw in Aba against the visiting league leaders Remo Stars in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 11, Enyimba International FC coach Yemi Olanrewaju has claimed that the nine-time league champions and two-time CAF Champions League winners still maintain their position as the best club in Nigeria.

On Sunday, Enyimba International FC of Abia played out a goalless draw with the visiting Remo Stars FC of Ogun at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.

Remo Stars FC goalkeeper Kayode Bankole thwarted all attempts by the home team in the second half of the match to ensure his team earned a share of the points.

In his post-match interview, Enyimba coach Yemi Olanrewaju expressed dismay over his team’s performance in the first half of the match.

“We were not in the match in the first half, and that was not what we planned for. As the hosts, I expected the players to put pressure on the visiting team.

“Though we were denied goals by the goalkeeper in the second half despite the substitutions we made.

“For me, it is not a bad result, as teams get points away from home in the ongoing NPFL. We will have to earn points elsewhere too.

“The league is a marathon, and we still have a lot of matches to play, so we can still finish the league well,” Olanrewaju said.

Olanrewaju affirmed that his team remains the best club in the country, noting that Enyimba is the only Nigerian team still competing in the CAF competition.

Remo Stars player Sadiq Ismail praised his teammates for withstanding Enyimba and neutralizing their firepower.

“Before we came here, we had confidence because we always get points here. It is either we beat them or we draw, no pressure at all.

“Our next game is against Rivers United, and the fact that they lost their match today is a big motivation for us.

“Enyimba is not a bad side, and we knew the match would be difficult. That’s why we prepared well to stop all their threats,” Ismail said.
