Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United forward, has expressed his complete commitment to England amid criticism he faced for taking a trip to New York after withdrawing from international duty in March.
Rashford, who is 25 years old, was unable to participate in the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine due to an injury. Gareth Southgate, the England manager, defended Rashford's decision to travel to the United States during that time.
In response to the criticism, Rashford stated, "I needed time to switch off and recover. I took a short four-day trip, then returned to focus on rehabilitation and getting ready as soon as possible."
He further explained that injuries are unpredictable and can occur unexpectedly, sometimes resulting from impact. Rashford affirmed his unwavering commitment to England, saying, "I am 100% committed to it [England]. People will always have something to say, but it doesn't really bother me."
Currently, Rashford is preparing for England's upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta in Valletta on Friday and North Macedonia at Old Trafford on the following Monday.
During the recently concluded season, the striker scored 30 goals in all competitions for Manchester United. His final match of the campaign was in the FA Cup final on June 3rd, where United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City, who subsequently secured the Treble.
