Manchester United's Antony omitted from Brazil squad amid abuse allegations

Manchester United winger Antony has been omitted from the Brazil national team squad following allegations of abuse made by his former girlfriend.
The Brazilian football federation decided to withdraw the 23-year-old from the squad after "facts became public" that require investigation.
Allegations made by Antony's ex-partner were published by Brazilian news outlet UOL, prompting police investigations in Sao Paulo and Greater Manchester. Antony has denied the accusations.
In a social media statement, Antony asserted his innocence, stating, "I can calmly state that the accusations are false and that the evidence already produced and the other evidence that will be produced demonstrate that I am innocent of the accusations made."
The allegations involve Antony allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, with a headbutt in a Manchester hotel room on January 15, resulting in a head injury that required medical treatment. She also claims to have been punched in the chest, causing damage to a silicone breast implant, which required corrective surgery.
Antony acknowledged that his relationship with his former partner was "tumultuous" but vehemently denied any physical aggression.
This is not the first time Antony has faced such accusations. In June, he released a statement denying domestic violence allegations made by his ex-girlfriend.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that they are aware of the allegations and are conducting ongoing inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the report. They have not provided further comment on the matter.
These allegations come on the heels of Manchester United's announcement last month that forward Mason Greenwood would be leaving the club by mutual agreement following a six-month internal investigation. Charges against Greenwood, including rape and assault, were dropped in February. He subsequently joined Spanish side Getafe on loan.
Antony's absence from the Brazil squad has led to Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus being called up as his replacement for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.
