Manchester United women's team aims for magical moment against PSG in Champions League battle

Posted : 17 October 2023
Manchester United manager Marc Skinner has thrown down the gauntlet to his squad, urging them to conjure a "magical moment" as they prepare to take on Paris St-Germain in their quest to secure a place in the Women's Champions League group stage – a feat they've never achieved before.

Last week, the initial encounter at Leigh Sports Village saw United and PSG settle for a 1-1 draw. The stage is now set for a thrilling rematch at the Parc des Princes this Wednesday, and the atmosphere among the visitors is brimming with confidence.

"Our commitment is unwavering as we set our sights on this challenge," remarked Skinner, exuding determination. "We're driven by our desire to clinch titles, and this match holds a special place in our priorities with the array of trophies on offer this season."

In the previous Women's Super League campaign, United clinched the runner-up spot, coming tantalizingly close to Chelsea, who secured the top spot by a mere two points. Consequently, the Red Devils found themselves in the Champions League qualification stage, starting from the second round.

The outcome of their two-leg duel with PSG, the formidable side that finished second in last season's Division 1 Feminine, behind Lyon, will determine which team proceeds to the coveted group stage.

For Manchester United, this marks their inaugural campaign in the Women's Champions League, whereas PSG boasts a more established history, having reached the knockout stages for five consecutive seasons.

The impending clash will unfold on the familiar turf of Paris St-Germain's men's team at the Parc des Princes. This will be the PSG women's fifteenth appearance at this iconic venue, their most recent outing resulting in defeat against Lyon at the beginning of October.

Marc Skinner embraced the significance of the forthcoming match, emphasizing the allure of playing against a top-tier opponent in front of passionate fans, all while United's loyal supporters watch from afar. "These are the romantic elements that make this experience so special. Should we triumph and advance, it will undoubtedly be a magical moment in our history," he passionately proclaimed.
