Manchester United has secured the signing of Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce for a fee of £4.3 million. The 25-year-old, who has represented Turkey five times, has committed to a four-year contract with the club.
During the previous season, Bayindir played a pivotal role for Fenerbahce as they clinched the Turkish Cup and secured a second-place finish in the Super Lig. Expressing his enthusiasm for joining Manchester United, Bayindir stated, "It is a huge honor to join Manchester United and become the first Turkish player to represent this incredible club." He emphasized his commitment to success and pledged to give his all to help the team achieve their goals.
Bayindir also expressed eagerness to work with the club's experienced goalkeeping unit, emphasizing mutual support and the pursuit of high standards in their daily preparations.
This signing comes following the departure of goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who moved to Crystal Palace in a £20 million deal. United's goalkeeping ranks underwent changes this summer, with long-time goalkeeper David de Gea leaving the club, while Andre Onana from Cameroon arrived from Inter Milan for £47.2 million.
Bayindir originally joined Fenerbahce from Ankaragucu in 2019, amassing 166 appearances and recording 53 clean sheets during his tenure.
Football director John Murtough praised the addition of Altay Bayindir to the squad, highlighting his quality and the strength he brings to the goalkeeping group.
Bayindir becomes Manchester United's fourth summer signing, joining Onana, midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea, and striker Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.
In addition, the club is engaged in negotiations with Fiorentina regarding a potential move for Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and is close to finalizing a loan deal for Tottenham's Spanish full-back Sergio Reguilon. It is anticipated that both England defender Harry Maguire and Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay will remain at Old Trafford despite transfer speculation.
