Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Arsenal Eye Key Transfers as January Window Opens

Posted : 02 January 2025

Manchester United is set to make a move for Sweden striker Viktor Gyokeres, 26, from Sporting this month as part of their efforts to revive a disappointing season. However, acquiring Gyokeres is expected to come with a hefty price tag of £80 million. Meanwhile, Real Madrid is keeping a close eye on Trent Alexander-Arnold's situation at Liverpool.

The La Liga club aims to secure the England defender on a free transfer in the summer and wants him to sign a pre-contract agreement soon to ensure there are no last-minute changes in his decision. Liverpool is determined to keep Alexander-Arnold for the remainder of the season, but Real Madrid’s second approach in January could test their resolve.

Barcelona sporting director Deco is reportedly eager to sign Liverpool’s Colombian winger Luis Diaz, 27, who is unhappy with the lack of progress in contract renewal talks at Anfield. Arsenal, on the other hand, leads the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt's Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush, 25, with competition from Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and AC Milan.

Arsenal has also considered making a move for Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, but they are not willing to pay more than £25 million for the England forward. Rashford, however, has denied rumors of talks with agencies to orchestrate a move away from Manchester United this month.

Fulham is reportedly concerned that Marseille might rekindle their interest in Brazilian midfielder Andreas Pereira, 29. Brentford, West Ham, and Fulham are all keeping an eye on the contract situation of Crystal Palace midfielder Will Hughes, 29, as his current deal nears its end.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are set to compete with six Premier League clubs for Spain forward Dani Olmo, 26, who will be available on a free transfer. Barcelona is still hopeful they can register Olmo for the second half of the season, despite the heavy competition for his signature.

In addition to player transfers, Manchester United is reportedly open to offers for key veterans such as Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen, and Sweden defender Victor Lindelof, all of whom are 30 or older.

Athletic Bilbao is tracking Norwich City's Basque-born winger Borja Sainz, 23, in case Nico Williams departs the club. Nottingham Forest is also willing to listen to offers for Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi, 27, provided they can secure a replacement of similar quality. Lastly, Galatasaray is in talks with Paris Saint-Germain regarding a potential loan deal with an option to buy for Slovakia defender Milan Skriniar, 29.
