Manchester United Manager Ten Hag faces pay cut amid champions league failure

Posted : 24 April 2024

Erik ten Hag, Manchester United's current manager, faces a 25% reduction in pay next season if he retains his position following the team's failure to qualify for the Champions League, sources informed ESPN. Despite signing a three-year contract in May 2022, Ten Hag is under mounting pressure due to United's current seventh position in the Premier League, 16 points behind the top four.

Although Manchester United reached the FA Cup final, their unconvincing performance, surrendering a 3-0 lead and conceding three goals in the final 20 minutes against Coventry City, has heightened scrutiny on Ten Hag's leadership. United's football regime, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has been exploring alternative managerial options, including Gareth Southgate, Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, and Gary O'Neil.

Despite the club's disappointing performances and Champions League exit, sources revealed that Manchester United is currently preparing for the next season with Ten Hag as manager. However, if the team fails to secure Champions League qualification, Ten Hag's salary, which stands at £9 million per year, would decrease by 25% for the following season.
