Manchester United fans in the US stage 'Glazers Out' banner protest at NFL game

Posted : 26 September 2023
A group of Manchester United supporters based in the United States has staged a banner protest reading "Glazers Out" over the Raymond James Stadium in Florida.

This display took place prior to the Monday Night Football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the NFL franchise owned by the Glazer family, who also possess Premier League giants Manchester United.

Organized by Manchester United supporters' groups in Pittsburgh and Tampa, the banner was flown over the stadium and captured on video, which was subsequently shared online.

This demonstration is the latest in a series of protests by fans who are advocating for the sale of the club's ownership. The Glazer family, who have held ownership of Manchester United since 2005, declared their consideration of various strategic alternatives, including new investment, a sale, or other transactions, in November of the previous year. Multiple offers were made by potential buyers, but the Glazers have yet to make a final decision regarding the sale of their stake in the club.

Since the retirement of legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, Manchester United has failed to secure a Premier League title, with their last Champions League victory dating back to 2008. Erik ten Hag, formerly of Ajax, assumed the position of head coach at the club last year.

In his inaugural season, the team won the Carabao Cup and reached the FA Cup final while securing Champions League qualification with a third-place league finish.

However, the current season has presented challenges for Manchester United, with three losses in their first six Premier League matches. The manager's troubles have been compounded by off-field issues, including Brazil winger Antony taking a leave of absence to address accusations of abuse from three women.

Additionally, winger Jadon Sancho is training separately from the first team following a public disagreement with the Dutch head coach, and forward Marcus Rashford was involved in a car accident after the team's 1-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday.
