Manchester United defender Bailly transfers to Turkish club Besiktas
Posted : 05 September 2023
Manchester United's defender Eric Bailly has completed his transfer to Turkish club Besiktas. The 29-year-old Ivory Coast international was not part of United's manager Erik ten Hag's plans and had spent the previous season on loan at Marseille.
Bailly had originally joined Manchester United in June 2016, becoming the first signing under former boss Jose Mourinho after arriving from Villarreal. During his time at the club, he made 113 appearances, scoring one goal. However, his career at United was plagued by injuries, and his last competitive appearance for the team was in a 3-1 victory over Burnley in December 2021.
Besiktas announced the transfer with a statement in which they expressed their agreement with Manchester United for the final transfer of Eric Bailly. They expressed their belief that he would provide important services to their club and wished him great success while donning their jersey.
Eric Bailly is the second Manchester United player to make a move to Turkey this summer, with Fenerbahce signing Fred in August. Turkish clubs have until September 15 to make additions to their squads.
