Manchester United declines £20 million bid for Harry Maguire, following West Ham's sale of Declan Rice

Manchester United has turned down a £20 million bid from West Ham for their England defender, Harry Maguire.
West Ham manager, David Moyes, is keen on acquiring Maguire and has the funds to spend following the £100 million sale of England midfielder, Declan Rice.
Maguire's future at Old Trafford has become uncertain after he was stripped of the captaincy by manager Erik ten Hag earlier this month. Ten Hag believes the move could help the 30-year-old regain his form.
While United is open to considering offers that match their valuation, they would only entertain them if Maguire expresses his willingness to leave.
Currently earning £200,000-a-week at Old Trafford, Maguire's wage demands are significantly higher than the highest earner at West Ham, which could be a potential hurdle in any transfer negotiations.
Maguire was appointed captain by Ten Hag's predecessor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, in January 2020, five months after his £80 million move from Leicester City.
Despite losing the captaincy, Maguire has stated his commitment to the club and vowed to continue giving his all on the pitch.
During the 2022-23 season, Maguire appeared in 31 of the club's 62 matches in all competitions, including eight Premier League starts. In his absence, Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes took on the captain's role.
Maguire's contract at Old Trafford runs until 2025. However, last season, he faced competition from Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the heart of United's defense, with Victor Lindelof stepping in when Martinez was injured. In certain instances, England left-back Luke Shaw was also deployed as a center-back by Ten Hag.
