Manchester United CEO Richard Arnold to step down as Sir Jim Ratcliffe nears

Richard Arnold is set to step down as Manchester United CEO as Sir Jim Ratcliffe prepares to become a minority shareholder. In a statement, Arnold expressed gratitude for his 16 years with the club and thanked employees and fans.
 
Patrick Stewart, the current chief legal counsel, will serve as interim CEO, ensuring stability as the club undergoes changes. Ratcliffe's £1.3 billion investment for a 25% stake is nearing completion, and sources indicate that football director John Murtough's position may be in jeopardy, with Ratcliffe eyeing INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford.
 
Arnold, who took over from Ed Woodward in February 2022, leaves as Ratcliffe's investment is finalized. The departure will be announced to the New York Stock Exchange. Ratcliffe's arrival signals a potential shift in football leadership, with football director Murtough's role under scrutiny. Ratcliffe's investment, announced nearly a year after the Glazer family considered "strategic alternatives," is poised to grant him influence over the football aspects of the club.
