Manchester United Agrees €45 Million Deal for Lille's Leny Yoro Amid Real Madrid Interest

Posted : 11 July 2024

Manchester United have finalized a €45 million ($48.7 million) deal with Lille to acquire Leny Yoro, despite ongoing interest from Real Madrid, sources confirmed to reporters. Madrid, however, remain confident in securing the young centre-back due to his strong preference to join them, even though they have yet to formally submit an offer, hoping to negotiate a slightly lower fee with Lille.

Sources indicated that United are aware of Yoro's desire to play for Madrid but are aiming to compel Lille to accept their higher bid. Paris Saint-Germain has also expressed interest in the 18-year-old, yet Madrid remains optimistic given their longstanding agreement with the player, according to sources.

Yoro's contract with Lille expires in June 2025, and with his reluctance to extend, Lille is motivated to sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free next year.

Having made his debut for Lille last season, Yoro quickly impressed, drawing praise from Madrid for his physicality and technical abilities. Despite being a regular for France's under-21 team, he missed out on selection for the Paris 2024 Olympics squad under Thierry Henry.

Meanwhile, Madrid's defensive plans have intensified following Nacho's departure to Al Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia. Manager Carlo Ancelotti is banking on Antonio Rüdiger to lead the defense, supported by Éder Militão and David Alaba returning from injury-plagued seasons. However, the club remains in the market for another defender after offloading Rafa Marín to Napoli, who spent the previous season on loan at Alavés.
