Manchester City seeks Matheus Nunes' second offer from Wolves

Posted : 24 August 2023
Manchester City has received indications that Wolverhampton Wanderers might be open to considering a second offer for Matheus Nunes. However, City is firm in its stance that they will not proceed with the deal unless there is a compromise reached on the valuation of the Portuguese international midfielder, according to sources.

In response to City's initial £47 million ($59 million) bid, Wolves declined the offer, indicating that it significantly undershot their assessment of Nunes' value. While Wolves are not eager to part with Nunes, they understand that a substantial offer warrants consideration, especially given Nunes' interest in the move.

Sources suggest that City is preparing to submit a second bid, yet they are resolute in their determination not to overpay. Should Wolves fail to adjust their demands, City is prepared to terminate discussions.

City has withdrawn from negotiations involving West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá, who is currently under investigation related to betting concerns. Despite this setback, City continues to monitor other potential targets.

Alongside the imminent signing of Jérémy Doku for a fee of £55.5 million from Rennes, City is actively seeking another midfielder to compensate for the absence of Kevin de Bruyne. De Bruyne is projected to be sidelined until February following hamstring surgery.

The acquisition of Doku will elevate City's summer expenditures beyond £150 million, building on their signings of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea and Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig. Notably, City's financial position remains stable in relation to Financial Fair Play regulations due to their substantial earnings from player departures during the transfer window, exceeding £80 million.

City's youth academy sales, including a nearly £9 million profit from Romeo Lavia's transfer to Chelsea and an additional £30 million from Riyad Mahrez's move to Al Ahli, have contributed to their robust financial position.

Meanwhile, Aymeric Laporte has finalized his transfer to Saudi Pro League team Al Nassr. City will receive a fee of £23.5 million for the Spanish international defender, adding to their total summer inflow, which now surpasses £100 million.
