Manchester City receives deal from Al-Nassr for Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte

Al-Nassr has put forward an undisclosed offer that Manchester City has accepted for the acquisition of Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte. During the 2021-22 season, the 29-year-old contributed with 43 starts; however, Pep Guardiola, the coach, leaned more towards Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake for City's triumphant Treble-winning campaign.
City made a significant investment of £77 million this summer to secure the services of another left-sided defender, Josko Gvardiol from Croatia, who is 21 years old. As Laporte potentially moves to Al-Nassr, he could find himself in the company of notable names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, and Alex Telles.
Laporte originally joined City from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018 for a club-record fee of £57 million, a few months after he switched his international allegiance from France to Spain. Guardiola, who had been at the helm of City for 18 months by then, recognized Laporte's ability to orchestrate plays from the defensive position, which contributed to City securing the Premier League title five times in the last six seasons.
Throughout his tenure at City, Laporte amassed 180 appearances and found the back of the net 12 times. He also holds 22 caps for Spain, a national team achievement that includes their victory in the UEFA Nations League final held in June.
The acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo by Al-Nassr in December marked a turning point for the club, which later became one of four Saudi Pro League clubs taken under the wing of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) in June. Alongside Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal, and Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr stands as a testament to this significant financial boost. In continuation of their high-profile signings, Al-Nassr managed to secure players like Mane, Brozovic, Telles, and Seko Fofana during the ongoing summer transfer window.
