Manchester City's head coach, Pep Guardiola, has announced that midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is set to undergo surgery for his hamstring injury, resulting in his absence from the team for the next three to four months of the ongoing season.
The 32-year-old suffered the injury during City's initial victory against Burnley at Turf Moor on Friday, forcing him to leave the field after just 23 minutes of play.
De Bruyne had previously faced injury concerns during the Champions League final triumph over Inter Milan in June. Guardiola described the situation as a "serious injury," highlighting the severity of De Bruyne's condition.
The Belgian national missed the entirety of City's pre-season matches, and he made his comeback as a substitute during the Community Shield match against Arsenal.
Guardiola emphasized that a crucial decision regarding the need for surgery is imminent, with the expectation that the same hamstring issue is affecting De Bruyne once again.
Explaining the situation, Guardiola stated, "The determination about whether surgery is necessary will be reached in the upcoming days and might result in his absence for approximately three to four months."
During the previous season, De Bruyne made significant contributions, netting 10 goals and delivering 31 assists. His performances were instrumental in City's successful conquest of the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup titles.
