Manchester City and Al-Ahli reach a £30 million agreement to purchase Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez

Riyad Mahrez, the Algerian winger, is set to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli in a £30m deal agreed upon by Manchester City. The 32-year-old has been granted permission to skip City's pre-season trip to Japan and South Korea.
City had been waiting for a bid that matched their valuation of Mahrez, who still had two years remaining on his contract. Having originally been signed for £60m in 2018, Mahrez contributed 15 goals in 47 games during Manchester City's Treble-winning season.
However, he was not used as a substitute in both the FA Cup and Champions League finals, prompting Pep Guardiola to include him in the list of significant signings by the SPL this summer.
Liverpool has also reached an agreement in principle to sell England midfielder Jordan Henderson to Al-Ettifaq for a deal worth £12m plus add-ons, amounting to £12m. This comes as other notable players like Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, and Ruben Neves have already made their moves to Saudi Arabia this summer.
Steven Gerrard has also been appointed as Al-Ettifaq's manager, while Michael Emenalo takes on the role of the SPL's director of football.
Additionally, the country's Public Investment Fund (PIF) has taken control of four leading SPL clubs, including Al-Ahli, with the aim of elevating the league to be among the top five in the world.
