A managerless Akwa United will host Sunshine Stars for Match Day 15 of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in Eket.
Recall that the Technical Adviser of the Promise Keepers, Fatai Osho, vacated his position just on Tuesday, an unexpected development in the club.
Former Remo Stars gaffer, Osho, who had just joined Akwa United at the start of the current season, has endured a turbulent tenure on the bench, which has seen the Promise Keepers struggle for wins under his tutelage.
The former Enyimba FC gaffer, in his letter of resignation, appreciated the Chairman of Akwa United, Elder Paul Bassey, in a farewell message to the club.
“Sir, I can’t thank you enough for my time at Akwa United FC. You’re a rare breed that deserves all happiness and success. We gave it our all but it was not to be.
"This temporary setback will be followed by unimaginable success. I will forever appreciate you for who you are. A nice man.
God bless you and Akwa United FC family abundantly. #SuccessAwaits” Osho wrote.
Osho thus becomes the fourth coach to lose his job this season. Christian Obi (Heartland FC), Tony Bolus (Katsina United), Hamza Abara (Niger Tornadoes) were the previous three.
The 2020/2021 NPFL champions are 17th on the log, battling in the relegation zone with 14 points from 14 games this season, having recorded only three wins all season.
Disgracefully, the Promise Keepers lost 1-0 to Heartland away from home in matchday 14 of the NPFL.
Assistant Coach Edwin Okon is expected to take charge of the Uyo-based team on an interim basis.
However, for Okon, this is a make-or-break match he must win to improve their position on the table.
The Promise Keepers have been inconsistent this season, and they must be wary of the threat posed by the Akure Gunners.
Sunshine Stars were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Gombe United in the last game, and Akwa must watch out for Moses Omodumueke as he becomes a new talisman for the away side.
Prediction:
Another draw in the mix.
