Manchester United's pursuit of Victor Osimhen could be hampered by financial constraints during the summer transfer window.
The imminent signing of Chelsea's Mason Mount has reduced United's transfer budget by £55 million, leaving them with only £65 million (equivalent to N64 billion in Nigerian currency) to allocate towards a striker.
As a result, United may struggle to meet Napoli's valuation for Osimhen, who is attracting interest from several top clubs.
Despite United's interest, Napoli has no intention of selling Osimhen this summer and has set a hefty price tag of 150 million euros (approximately N124 billion) to deter potential suitors.
The Nigerian striker has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents in world football after an impressive season, scoring 31 goals in 39 appearances and earning accolades such as the Capocannoniere award and Serie A Best Striker for the 2022-2023 season.
In addition to Osimhen, United has been linked with other striking options like Harry Kane, Rasmus Hojlund, Randal Kolo Muani, and Goncalo Ramos.
However, the price tags associated with these players exceed United's current budget. While Osimhen has been offered a new contract by Napoli that would extend his stay until 2027, the agreement has yet to be finalized.
Ultimately, United faces a challenging financial situation as they seek to strengthen their attacking options, and it remains to be seen whether they can secure the services of Osimhen or pursue alternative targets within their budget constraints.
