Man United eye Cunha, Osimhen; Rashford future uncertain

Posted : 24 April 2025

Manchester United are reportedly plotting ambitious moves for both Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha. The Red Devils, aiming to revamp their attacking options, see these two strikers as key pieces of their summer rebuild. According to reports, the funding for these signings could come from the sale of several current players, including Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Marcus Rashford. Despite a challenging season, United’s appeal in the transfer market remains strong, and these potential acquisitions highlight a shift toward a more targeted and efficient recruitment strategy.

The club’s intent to offload multiple high-profile players is part of a broader overhaul expected under the guidance of head coach Ruben Amorim. Marcus Rashford, whose performances have been inconsistent, is among those facing an uncertain future. Although on loan at Aston Villa, no final decision has been made regarding his next move. Sources suggest that Rashford is keen on continuing in a team that can offer Champions League football, but a return to United under Amorim seems unlikely.

Negotiations surrounding Rashford’s future are expected to intensify in the summer, with his representatives poised to engage in discussions after the current season concludes. While a swap deal involving other Premier League stars like Ollie Watkins or Eberechi Eze has been floated in the media, those close to the player have dismissed such scenarios due to the complexities they would involve. Rashford, meanwhile, is keeping his options open but is reportedly hesitant about a move to London.

Another striker on United’s radar is Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo. However, prising the Ghanaian international away from the south coast club won’t be easy. Bournemouth are reportedly demanding a fee similar to the £65 million they received for Dominic Solanke, setting a high bar for negotiations. Semenyo, who signed a new deal last summer, is valued not just for his goal-scoring ability but also his versatility across the front line.

At 25, Semenyo is still considered to have significant upside and is capable of playing as a winger, an inside forward, or even in a more withdrawn attacking role. With aspirations to play European football, a move to a bigger club could be on the horizon if he continues his strong performances. Whether that opportunity arises at Bournemouth or elsewhere depends largely on how the season finishes.

Meanwhile, Queens Park Rangers may soon be searching for a new manager. Marti Cifuentes, who has been at the helm since November 2023, is reportedly weighing his future at the club following a breakdown in relations with the club’s executive leadership. His frustration centers on strategic decisions and the club’s long-term direction under CEO Christian Nourry.

Cifuentes’ potential exit is attracting interest from several Championship rivals, including Norwich and West Brom. The Spanish coach, who previously managed in Sweden, has won admiration from QPR fans for stabilizing the team and helping them avoid relegation. Should he depart Loftus Road, he’s likely to be one of the most sought-after managers in the league heading into the new season.
