Man City edge Fulham to go top as Haaland equals another record
Posted : 01 May 2023
In a 2-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday, Manchester City reclaimed the Premier League's top spot for the first time since February as Erling Haaland achieved yet another milestone.
In his record-tying 34th Premier League goal during an extraordinary debut season in England, Haaland buried a penalty in the third minute.
He now shares the Premier League single-season scoring record with Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.
Carlos Vinicius' bullet past Ederson in the 15th minute gave City a setback, but they bounced back to create a string of opportunities.
Before Julian Alvarez, an Argentine forward, managed to outwit Bernd Leno with a right-footed shot from outside the box, Jack Grealish was denied by the crossbar.
Even though City had several opportunities to extend their lead after the break and experienced some uneasy moments, they managed to hold on and earn their eighth straight league victory.
With 76 points, they surpassed Arsenal by one and still had a game remaining.
Fulham is still in tenth position.
