Mamelodi Sundowns ready to unleash aggressive gameplan in AFL final second leg

Posted : 07 November 2023
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena has made it clear that his team will go all out against Wydad Casablanca in the African Football League (AFL) final second leg. Despite trailing 2-1 after the first leg, Sundowns are determined to overturn the deficit on home turf and win the inaugural AFL championship.

Mokwena is confident that an aggressive gameplan at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria can secure victory for his side. He emphasized, "We will do everything we can to be champions at the end of the day. It is not over. We still have the second leg, and we will throw everything at Wydad."

Sundowns have the advantage of an away goal, courtesy of Abdelmonem Boutouil's penalty in Casablanca. Mokwena praised his players' resilience in a challenging environment at Stade Mohammed V, stating, "We showed very good character and fought hard against a very good opponent in an intense atmosphere."

With a massive 90,000-capacity home crowd behind them, Sundowns aim to make a strong comeback in the second leg. Mokwena expects his team to give their all and is determined to seize the AFL title, stating, "We have to prepare to recover and get players rested before we throw everything at Wydad. It is not over, and we will do everything to be champions."

Mokwena's comments place additional pressure on Wydad, who will face a motivated Sundowns side seeking to make AFL history. With a fast start and enthusiastic home support, Sundowns hope to stage a dramatic comeback and claim the AFL championship after an impressive journey to the final.
