Mallorca 2-2 Barcelona: Barcelona salvages draw against Mallorca, maintains unbeaten streak in La Liga
Posted : 27 September 2023
Barcelona, the current leaders of La Liga, faced Mallorca in an away match and managed to salvage a draw, keeping their undefeated streak intact.
The match saw an unfortunate mistake from Barcelona's goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, leading to Mallorca's first goal, with Vedat Muriqi converting a pass from Antonio Sanchez.
However, former Leeds United forward Raphinha equalized for Barcelona. Still, Mallorca took the lead again just before halftime through Abdon.
In the second half, Raphinha played a crucial role by setting up substitute Fermin Lopez, who scored the equalizer, securing a valuable point for Barcelona.
Notably, this was the 20-year-old Spanish midfielder Fermin Lopez's first competitive goal for the club. Barcelona's performance in this match brought their record to five wins and two draws in their first seven La Liga matches. They had previously kicked off their Champions League campaign with a resounding 5-0 victory against Royal Antwerp.
Barcelona currently holds the top spot in La Liga, but they are aware that they could lose it if second-placed Girona wins against Villarreal or if Real Madrid, in third place, secures a victory against Las Palmas in their upcoming matches on Wednesday.
