Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper, Maduka Emilio Okoye, earned a spot in Serie A's team of the week following an outstanding performance against Atalanta.
Despite Udinese's 2-0 loss, Okoye, who has recently become the team's first-choice goalkeeper, made nine crucial saves in the absence of talisman Ademola Lookman.
Since becoming Udinese's starting goalkeeper, Okoye has played in the last five games, keeping one clean sheet and conceding nine goals. His performance against Atalanta showcased his ability and contributed significantly to preventing further goals against Gabriele Cioffi's team.
Okoye's exclusion from the current AFCON tournament has allowed him to focus on building confidence and gaining consistent playing time.
While he was part of the previous AFCON edition, he was not called up for the current tournament, with coach Jose Peseiro choosing other goalkeepers.
Meanwhile, Stanley Nwabali has performed well in Okoye's absence, keeping three clean sheets and conceding only one goal in the Ivory Coast-hosted AFCON 2023.
