Madueke insists managers should field good players

Posted : 23 June 2023
Noni Madueke, an England U21 player of Nigerian heritage, recently emphasized the importance of managers giving opportunities to exceptional young talents in their squads, using Jude Bellingham, a rising star of the Three Lions, as an example.

The transfer of Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid for a staggering fee of approximately 100 million euros has been one of the most significant stories of the ongoing summer transfer window.

Despite being just 19 years old, Bellingham, a product of Birmingham City's academy, has already amassed an impressive track record.

During his time at Dortmund, he made 132 appearances across three seasons, including an impressive 116 starts.

His rapid rise in the football world has captured the attention of fans and experts alike, making him a prime example of a young player who has excelled and earned a high-profile move.

In the realm of managerial changes, Chelsea recently made headlines with the announcement of their acquisition of Mauricio Pochettino, the former manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

Pochettino's arrival at Chelsea, set to take effect from the start of the 2023-2024 season, has generated anticipation and excitement among players, including Noni Madueke.

The young winger, who faced challenges in securing regular playing time during the initial months of his Chelsea career, expressed his delight at the prospect of working with Pochettino, renowned for his ability to develop young talents into football superstars.

Madueke shared his enthusiasm in an interview with Evening Standard, stating, "If he can make me better, I'll be a very good player."

He expressed his unwavering commitment to his own style of play, acknowledging its inherent riskiness, while emphasizing the importance of maximizing effectiveness alongside skillfulness.

According to Madueke, young players require a manager who can nurture and further enhance their abilities.

He pointed to Jude Bellingham's transfer to Real Madrid at the tender age of 19 as evidence that talent and ability should be the determining factors for playing time and opportunities.

In the previous season, following his move from PSV Eindhoven to Chelsea, Madueke managed to secure seven starts, primarily during the latter half of the campaign under the caretaker management of Frank Lampard.

These opportunities allowed him to showcase his potential and contribute to the team's performance on the field.

Continuing his journey, Noni Madueke has recently been included in the starting lineup for the England U21 team, known as the Young Lions, in their ongoing game against the Czech Republic at the 2023 European U21 Championship.

His participation in such a prestigious tournament signifies his growing reputation and highlights the significance of providing young talents with opportunities to excel and represent their countries at the highest level of international competition.
