Madrid Celebrates as Spain's Euro 2024 Champions Return Home

Thousands of fans in Madrid greeted Spain's national team on Monday, celebrating their victory over England to win Euro 2024. After meeting with King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, La Roja made their way through the capital on an open-top bus, proudly displaying the trophy and the message "it's only the beginning."

 

The players, including Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, and match-winner Mikel Oyarzabal, wore white t-shirts with the number 4, symbolizing Spain's record four European Championship titles. Prime Minister Sanchez expressed the nation's ambition, saying, "We want a lot. We want more." Williams, who scored the first goal in the 2-1 victory, expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support and enthusiasm.

 

The celebratory bus tour concluded at Plaza Cibeles, where thousands more fans had gathered to join in the festivities. This joyous occasion marked Spain's fourth European Championship triumph, following their previous victories in 1964, 2008, and 2012.
