Croatia midfielder Luka Modric has agreed to a fresh one-year contract with Real Madrid, ensuring his stay at the club until the summer of 2024. The 37-year-old's previous deal was set to expire, and there were rumors linking him to a move to Saudi Arabia's Pro League.
However, Modric has chosen to remain with Real Madrid, where he has enjoyed immense success since joining from Tottenham in 2012.
During his time at Real Madrid, Modric has amassed an impressive record of 488 appearances. He has contributed to the team's triumphs, securing three La Liga titles and clinching the prestigious Champions League trophy on five occasions.
In 2018, Modric was honored with the Ballon d'Or award after his outstanding performances for Croatia, which included reaching the World Cup final.
Expressing his joy about the contract extension, Modric took to Twitter, writing "Home Sweet Home." His decision follows fellow teammates Toni Kroos, Dani Ceballos, and Nacho Fernandez, who have also recently prolonged their contracts with the club.
Modric remains a vital player for Real Madrid, a club with a remarkable 14 European championships to its name.
Real Madrid has already made a significant addition to their midfield this summer by acquiring England international Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.
This signing further intensifies the competition for places in the team's midfield, highlighting the club's ambition to maintain a strong and talented squad.
