Real Madrid captain Luka Modric has officially signed a one-year contract extension, ensuring his presence at the Santiago Bernabeu for the upcoming season. The announcement was made by the European champions on Wednesday, confirming that the 38-year-old midfielder will remain with the club until June 30, 2025.
Throughout his illustrious career with Real Madrid, Modric has secured six Champions League titles, four La Liga titles, and two Copa del Rey victories. Although he has made only 37 starts over the last two league seasons, his experience and leadership continue to make him a vital asset for coach Carlo Ancelotti. Last season, Modric played a key role in helping the team achieve a Champions League-La Liga double.
Modric recently made headlines by becoming the oldest goalscorer in European Championship history during Euro 2024, scoring for Croatia against Italy, though the team ultimately exited in the group stage. Reflecting on his future, he expressed a desire to continue playing but acknowledged that retirement would come eventually. His contract extension follows the recent signing of Kylian Mbappe, as Madrid gears up to defend their league title starting with a match against Real Mallorca on August 18.
