Luis Enrique asserts no urgent need for transfers at PSG, leaves door open

Posted : 13 January 2024

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Luis Enrique stated that he currently doesn't need to strengthen his squad in the transfer market, emphasizing that he already has enough quality players. However, he didn't rule out the possibility of new arrivals if the right opportunities arise.

The coach expressed openness to improving the team during transfer windows but emphasized that, at the moment, there's no pressing need for additions. PSG recently signed Brazilian defender Lucas Beraldo on January 1, and Enrique mentioned that the newcomer needs time to adapt to the team.

Regarding Beraldo, Luis Enrique acknowledged the adaptation process, considering the differences in climate between Brazil (summer) and France (winter). He described Beraldo as mature for his age and emphasized the club's supportive environment in helping him settle in quickly.

Additionally, midfielder Gabriel Moscardo is expected to join PSG but has yet to finalize the deal after undergoing foot surgery. PSG currently faces several injuries, with players like Milan Skriniar, Achraf Hakimi (on Africa Cup of Nations duty), Lee Kang-In (at the Asian Cup), Presnel Kimpembe, and Nuno Mendes unavailable.

As PSG resumes its Ligue 1 campaign after the winter break, the focus is intensifying on the future of Kylian Mbappe. The French captain's contract expires in June, and there's ongoing speculation about a potential move to Real Madrid in the summer.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has expressed the club's desire to keep Mbappe, highlighting it as the best place for him. Mbappe showcased his scoring prowess with a hat-trick in PSG's recent 9-0 victory over French Cup rivals Revel.
