Coming quickly on the heels of the inauguration of its seven standing committees, the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) has set up an ad hoc committee to oversee the development and growth of women's football in the state.
The LSFA on Monday revealed its plans for women's football as its Chairman, Hajji Gafar Liameed, disclosed that the FA has decided to up the ante by working with a coterie of experienced, passionate, and resourceful female football administrators and investors to give a fresher and more elevating breath of air to women's football in Lagos State.
The members of the LSFA Women’s Football Ad hoc Committee include Alhaja Rofiat Abdulsalam as the Chairperson. Other members are Princess Bopo Oyekan, Director Service Matters, PSO; Barrister Beverly Agbakoba Onyejianya, a sports lawyer, arbitrator, and mediator.
Also on the list are Bukola Alabi, Founder of Kidsport; Tega Onajafe, Founder of Ladies in Sports and Sports Presenter; Barrister Doyin Aina, CEO of Bulls Sports Limited; and Dannaz Nazzal, Founder/CEO of Dannaz Ladies FC and Ivory Health Sport Club.
The terms of reference for the committee are gender-based. Specifically, the committee aims to expose more girls to the game through football tournaments for primary, secondary, and tertiary students, thereby increasing visibility for the game.
The committee will also organize conferences for girls within that age group, where the opportunities embedded in sports for females will be highlighted. These conferences will include inviting Super Falcons and other female football heroes to mentor and address the girls.
Additionally, the committee will strive to forge partnerships with corporate and non-corporate bodies interested in the sport. It will focus on a major objective and slogan that will attract sponsorship, branding, and help headline the committee's work.
