Lookman wins award following Super Eagles' victory against Libya

Posted : 14 October 2024

Ademola Lookman, the forward for the Super Eagles, has been awarded the title of Atalanta's Player of the Month for September, thanks to a series of outstanding performances for the Italian club. The 26-year-old winger has quickly become a fan favorite, contributing significantly to Atalanta's strong start to the season with two goals and one assist throughout the month.

Atalanta announced Lookman's achievement on their official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday. His influence was evident in crucial matches, particularly in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Fiorentina, where he not only assisted the equalizing goal but also netted the match-winner, earning him the MVP honor for that game.

In addition to his stellar play against Fiorentina, Lookman scored in Atalanta's narrow 3-2 loss to Como, converting a penalty that helped narrow the scoreline. His impressive consistency extended to the UEFA Champions League as well, where he contributed a goal and an assist in two matches.

Fans of Atalanta showed their appreciation by voting for Lookman as their Player of the Month through the club's official app, highlighting his skills in dribbling, creativity, and finishing ability. His performance has made a significant impression on supporters and management alike.

Lookman's nearest competitor for the monthly accolade was Serbian midfielder Lazar Samardžić, who finished in second place, while Mateo Retegui, the previous month’s champion, secured third place.

On the international stage, Lookman faced some controversy as two of his goals were disallowed during Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Libya in the first leg of the AFCON qualifiers. Despite this setback, he remains focused on maintaining his impressive form.

As the Super Eagles prepare for the second leg on Tuesday, Lookman is determined to continue contributing to his team's success and help secure a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
