Lookman expresses faith in Atalanta's Europa League chances
Posted : 26 October 2023
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman holds a strong belief that Atalanta can secure victory in this season's Europa League.
Last season, Atalanta narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification, ending fifth in Serie A, just six points behind AC Milan. Nonetheless, they have regrouped and adapted well to the Europa League, the second-tier continental competition.
In their third group stage match at the Merkur Arena, Atalanta faces Austrian side Sturm Graz this Thursday. They currently lead their group with six points from two games, needing just two more wins to secure their place in the next round.
Lookman, who joined Atalanta last year, has proven to be a valuable asset, contributing 18 goals and eight assists in 44 appearances. Despite being just 26 years old, he boasts extensive experience, having played in all three tiers of European continental football.
Lookman believes that Atalanta has a strong chance of winning the Europa League and values this achievement over mere qualification for the Champions League. He emphasized the importance of a trophy, stating, "A trophy is priceless. Gian Pero Gasperini always says everything depends on us. We have respect for the opponent but with the idea that we can win against everyone."
In a recent match against Genoa, Lookman played a pivotal role in helping Atalanta secure a victory, and he aims to continue his goal-scoring form against Sturm Graz.
To clinch the Europa League title, Atalanta will need to perform at their best, as they face stiff competition from other top teams like Brighton, West Ham, and Liverpool who are also participating in the tournament.
