The Benue State government has announced the formation of a new board for the state-owned football club, Lobi Stars FC of Markurdi.
Earlier, the government had dismissed the previous board led by Dominic Iorfa during the pre-season activities.
However, the Yes Father side has welcomed a newly constituted board appointed by the Executive Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, in Markurdi.
The new board members are:
1. Dr. Philip Nongu – Chairman
2. Dr. Iorngulum Malu – Secretary
3. Chief Solomon Andiir – Member
4. Mr. Harry Yachi – Member
5. Mr. Francis Ejiga – Member
6. Sir James Iorpuu – Government Representative
During their inaugural meeting with the team, Board Chairman Dr. Philip Nongu, speaking on behalf of the members, commended the players for their remarkable victory at the recently concluded Gusau/Alhan Pre-season Tournament in Jos.
He expressed optimism that this success marks the beginning of greater achievements for the club.
Conveying the Governor’s message, Dr. Nongu assured the team that outstanding salaries for July and August, which had been delayed by the previous management, would be settled within 14 days.
He further urged the players to maintain discipline, emphasizing that success in football relies on character and commitment.
Dr. Nongu also encouraged the team to strive for victory in their upcoming match, assuring them of the board’s full support and commitment to their welfare.
He informed them that Lobi Stars Football Club is now officially under the Sports Council, marking a new era of collaboration and progress for the team.
Speaking on behalf of the players, team captain Daniel Atsaka expressed gratitude to the new board for their swift engagement and pledged that the team would work hard to achieve excellent results on and off the field.
He also extended congratulations to the board members on their appointments.
The team has set off for Lafia, their adopted home, in preparation for their highly anticipated league opener against Akwa United.
