Lobi Stars management says team deserves accolades and respect
Posted : 24 June 2023
Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi is one of the founding clubs of the Nigeria top league when Nigeria Football entered the Professional status in I990.
Like the proverbial lizard who praised itself amidst passing through different challenges, Lobi Stars join the likes of Rangers International FC Enugu who have not tasted relegation.
The club has weathered the storm and remains up there, aside playing in finals of the FA cup and representing the country in CAF confederation championship.
The recent last efforts in 2021/2022 NPFL season to rescue the club from 19th relegation position was the biggest miracle in history, more than winning the league title.
Since the start of the just-concluded 2023 abridged league, Lobi Stars surmounted all the pressures of playing all the games away from home.
While other clubs which found themselves in that situation were either relegated or fought relegation battles, Lobi Stars was the only club that finished high to play in the Super 6, one of the first teams to book a ticket to the Super 6 in Lagos, alongside Rivers United and Bendel Insurance; Lobi Stars was the only club to qualify from the 19 Northern Nigerian states.
So far, from the Abridged league, to the Super 6, to the quarter final Federation cup, all through to the Naija Super 8 and to the forth-coming Best 8 clubs in Nigeria Pre-season tournament, Lobi Stars have been involved in all the competitions.
Just like Bendel Insurance FC, Lobi Stars FC is another club that had not rested all through the season.
A closer look at Lobi Stars' performances at the Super 6 clearly showcased that after the superb performances in the first three matches against Bendel Insurance, Rivers United and Enyimba, fatigue and other psychological issues set in and affected the players in the last matches against Remo Stars and Sunshine Stars.
While no team can be said to be a push over, majority of the NPFL clubs were eliminated from the FA cup by NNL clubs, the likes of former champions, Akwa United, were eliminated by EFCC, Gombe United FC also suffered elimination by NNL club, Warri Wolves, who also eliminated Shooting Stars.
