It was a gloomy day in Ilorin as Kwara United went on to be vanquished, with high-flying visiting Lobi Stars earning a deserving 2-0 win over them at the Ilorin Township Stadium.
Kwara United started off the new year with a defeat as title-chasing Lobi Stars stunned their opponents, Kwara United, right in front of their own fans on their turf.
Former Kwara United player Tiza Samuel put his new team, Lobi Stars, ahead early in the contest.
Stanley Oganbor doubled the lead for the visitors in the 44th minute, with both goals scored in the first half of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 17 played at the Ilorin Township Stadium.
Lobi Stars, however, survived a scare in the 52nd minute of the testy match as the Harmony Boys were awarded a spot-kick after an infringement.
It was, however, Lucky Abdullahi, the Lobi Stars goalkeeper's day, as he made a fantastic save to stop Kwara United from the penalty spot.
