Former Premier League champions Liverpool are considering Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Super Eagles star has impressed in recent seasons, making him a strong candidate to step into the Egyptian’s role at Anfield.
Salah has been exceptional for Liverpool since arriving from AS Roma in 2016. Over the years, he has scored 241 goals and provided 109 assists in 387 appearances, cementing his place as the club’s third-highest goalscorer behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
The Egyptian winger has been crucial to Liverpool’s success in the last nine years. However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and no extension signed, speculation over his departure has intensified. While Salah has expressed a desire to stay, reports suggest that Liverpool are hesitant to meet his contract demands, increasing the likelihood of a summer exit.
Reports from Transfer News Live indicate that Liverpool are keen on Lookman as a replacement. The 27-year-old has been outstanding for Atalanta, attracting interest from several top European clubs. Since joining the Italian side three years ago, he has recorded 49 goals and 22 assists in 107 appearances.
Lookman’s future at Atalanta remains uncertain following a reported disagreement with manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who criticized his penalty-taking ability. This fallout has fueled speculation that the Nigerian forward could leave the club at the end of the season.
Atalanta may also be open to selling him if he refuses to extend his contract. Having started his career in England, a return to the Premier League seems likely if he secures a move to a top club.
Besides Liverpool, both Arsenal and Manchester United are monitoring Lookman’s situation. However, Liverpool and Arsenal appear to be leading the race, as both clubs are actively seeking attacking reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window.
