Liverpool is edging closer to appointing Arne Slot as their next manager, with sources confirming an agreement between the Premier League club and Dutch side Feyenoord for the highly regarded coach. Slot, 45, expressed his eagerness to join Liverpool after being identified as the preferred candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp, who will depart Anfield after 8½ years in charge.
Negotiations between Liverpool and Feyenoord culminated in a compensation deal for Slot, who had two years remaining on his contract with the Eredivisie outfit. Although the exact figure of the settlement remains undisclosed publicly, Feyenoord had been holding out for a £9 million ($11.25m) deal before reaching an agreement with Liverpool.
Slot's desire to move to the Premier League became apparent as he spoke to ESPN Netherlands ahead of Feyenoord's Eredivisie fixture against Go Ahead Eagles, expressing confidence in the ongoing negotiations between the clubs. Liverpool initiated talks with Feyenoord for Slot, who rejected offers from Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur, affirming his preference to pursue a career in the English top flight with Liverpool.
