Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed confidence that Erik ten Hag will secure another high-profile role despite his recent dismissal from Manchester United. Slot’s comments came after United announced the end of Ten Hag’s two-year tenure following a disappointing start to the season, which saw the club drop to 14th place in the Premier League. Ten Hag’s final game in charge was a 2-1 defeat to West Ham, concluding a difficult period marked by inconsistent performances.
Slot, whose Liverpool team added to the pressure on Ten Hag with a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford in September, showed sympathy for his fellow Dutchman. Speaking at a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s League Cup match against Brighton, Slot reflected on the challenges of managing in competitive environments, especially for a Dutch coach working abroad. "It’s tough; we’re all aware of the risks in this job,” Slot said, acknowledging the intense scrutiny Ten Hag faced at United.
Slot also highlighted Ten Hag’s successful achievements prior to United, notably his work at Ajax and his two domestic trophies in England—the League Cup and FA Cup. Slot remarked on Ten Hag's skill and commitment to his craft, adding, "I know how much he puts into his work." Slot firmly believes Ten Hag’s talent and resilience will soon see him return to a top-level position, commenting, "He’ll be back at a big club again."
