'Liverpool excludes No.9 purchase' - Expert denies interest in Osimhen
Posted : 25 October 2023
Liverpool transfer insider Neil Jones has dismissed the possibility of Victor Osimhen joining Anfield.
While the Super Eagles forward had been rumored to have reached personal terms with the six-time European champions, the report was debunked by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Osimhen is in high demand, especially from Premier League giants Chelsea, and other top European clubs could be interested if he leaves Napoli next summer.
His future with Napoli is uncertain due to his failure to sign a new contract, and the relationship between him and the Italian club has soured recently.
According to Jones, Liverpool is well-stocked in the central forward position, making it unlikely that they will pursue the Nigerian striker.
"Victor Osimhen has been linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, but I would be very skeptical about this deal," he wrote in his Daily Briefing column via Caughtoffside. "Liverpool is not in the market for a No.9. They have Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo for that position, all of whom have the full faith of Jurgen Klopp and are considered long-term players for the club."
While Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis remains hopeful that Osimhen will commit his future to the club, he has also suggested that they might consider selling him next summer.
