Liverpool consider £60m bid for Super Eagles star amid Diaz exit

Liverpool, six-time UEFA Champions League winners, are reportedly considering a £60m bid for Atalanta and Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman.  


The 27-year-old forward, recently crowned the 2024 African Player of the Year, has impressed with 15 goals and six assists in 28 matches across all competitions this season. Last summer, Paris Saint-Germain showed interest in him, but no deal materialized. Reports suggest Lookman is open to a new challenge, fueling speculation about a potential transfer.  


West Ham United have also expressed interest in signing the Nigerian star, with Atalanta reportedly valuing him at around £60m. Spanish sources indicate that Liverpool could move for Lookman if Luis Diaz leaves Anfield in the summer transfer window.  


Arne Slot’s team is preparing for the possibility of Diaz’s departure, as the Colombian winger has attracted interest from several clubs, including Barcelona. The Spanish giants have struggled with a lack of a natural left winger, forcing Raphinha to play out of position.  


At Liverpool, Diaz has also faced challenges securing a consistent starting role, with Cody Gakpo excelling on the left flank. He has had to compete with Diogo Jota and Darwin Núñez for a place in the attacking lineup, prompting Liverpool’s management to explore possible replacements.  


Lookman fits Liverpool’s requirements for a new winger—fast, skillful, and capable of taking on defenders. His previous experience in the English Premier League is another advantage, but any move depends on Diaz’s potential exit.  


The Nigerian winger's future at Atalanta appears uncertain after tensions with manager Gian Piero Gasperini. A recent penalty miss in a UEFA Champions League match against Club Brugge reportedly strained their relationship, increasing speculation about Lookman’s departure.
