Lionel Messi's suspension has been reduced by PSG, and he may play on Saturday - sources

Posted : 09 May 2023
According to reports, Lionel Messi will practice with Paris Saint-first Germain's squad on Tuesday and be ready for selection for their encounter against Ajaccio on Saturday.

The Argentine trained alone at the Ligue 1 leaders' facilities on Monday as the rest of the first squad was given the day off following a victory over Troyes on Sunday, according to sources who claim he was punished for traveling to Saudi Arabia last week and skipping practice as a result.

According to further sources, PSG decided to reduce Messi's ban from two weeks to one after the World Cup champion apologized to the squad, his colleagues, and the supporters for skipping practice last week.

Messi still faces two fines.
On Monday, May 8, Paris Saint-Germain tweeted a photo of Messi working out on social media with the caption: "The Argentinian striker from Paris Saint-Germain was back in training on Monday 8 May."

Messi attended the Laureus Awards later on Monday in Paris, where he received the Sportsman of the Year award and collected the World Team of the Year honor on behalf of Argentina, the nation he helped win the 2022 World Cup championship for.

Uncertainty surrounds Messi's future at PSG. A source close to the Argentina captain claims that the 36-year-old has been made a formal offer to play for Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal next season and that a contract extension at PSG is not likely.

Messi was named the tourist ambassador for Saudi Arabia last year, and he traveled to Jeddah in May 2022.

He came back in January to compete in an exhibition game for PSG against a group of Saudi League stars, where he ran across longstanding adversary Cristiano Ronaldo, an Al Nassr player.
