Lionel Messi Plans to Conclude Career with Inter Miami

Lionel Messi has expressed his intention to conclude his football career with Inter Miami but has no immediate plans for retirement. The 36-year-old, an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, made the move to Major League Soccer (MLS) last summer following his departure from Paris St-Germain, capping off a remarkable stint with Barcelona, where he secured four Champions League titles and 10 La Liga championships.

 

The Argentine, who clinched the 2022 World Cup with his national team, is contracted with Inter Miami until 2025, with the option of extending for another year. Speaking to ESPN, Messi revealed, "As of today, I think it's going to be my last club," while emphasizing his ongoing passion for the game. He added, "I'm not ready to leave football either."

 

Despite nearing the latter stages of his career, Messi's performance in the MLS has been stellar, tallying 12 goals and 13 assists in just 12 matches for the league leaders this season. With his focus now on the upcoming Copa America, where Argentina aims to defend their title, Messi remains determined to maintain his top form and contribute to his national team's success.

 

Reflecting on his move to the United States, Messi acknowledged the challenge of leaving Europe but highlighted the experience of being a world champion as transformative. He expressed his love for the game, relishing every moment on the field and in training, acknowledging the finite nature of his playing career.
