Lionel Messi is back with a start against Ajaccio, suspension reduced
Posted : 12 May 2023
Christophe Galtier has confirmed that Lionel Messi will start for Paris Saint-Germain against Ajaccio on Saturday, his two-week suspension has been shortened.
The World Cup champion attacker had initially been given a two-week suspension for an unauthorized travel to Saudi Arabia, which would have prevented him from playing on Saturday in Ligue 1.
However, PSG chose to let Messi return to training alone on Monday after expressing an apology following the aforementioned penalty.
On Friday, Galtier revealed that he would start at the Parc des Princes, as the PSG boss told reporters: "I spoke with him [Messi] on Thursday. He is motivated, determined and he wants to win another trophy. Yes, he will be a starter tomorrow."
Following the original harsh penalty for Messi's vacation to the Gulf state, where he serves as a tourism ambassador, the return to action is an interesting turn of events.
Although the forward's apology seems to help temporarily, there are still major questions about his future in the French city.
