Leverkusen holds Bayern to thrilling draw, PSG suffers defeat, and Neymar impresses in Al-Hilal debut

Posted : 16 September 2023
Two of European football's prominent teams faced disappointment in their recent matches. Bayer Leverkusen secured a dramatic 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, with Palacios scoring a crucial penalty in extra time (94) to level the score. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), despite a pair of goals from Mbappe, suffered a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Nice.

The thrilling encounter at the Allianz Arena showcased Leverkusen's resilience. Bayern took an early lead when Harry Kane found the net in the seventh minute after a defensive lapse by Leverkusen.

However, the visitors responded impressively, with Alex Grimaldo's superb long-range effort finding the back of the net to equalize. Leverkusen continued to press, and in the 86th minute, Leon Goretzka capitalized on a cross from Matthias Tell to put Bayern ahead.

However, the drama wasn't over. In extra time, Esquill Palacios converted a penalty after Jonas Hofmann was fouled, securing a 2-2 draw for Leverkusen.

In France, PSG faced another setback, losing 3-2 at home to Nice. Taran Moffi opened the scoring for the visitors in the 21st minute, but Kylian Mbappe equalized for PSG in the 29th minute.

Gaëtan Labourde restored Nice's lead in the 53rd minute, and Moffi added another goal in the 69th minute. Mbappe managed to chip in a goal (87) with an assist from Randal Kolo Muani on his debut for PSG. The result added to PSG's struggles in the early stages of the season, with Luis Enrique feeling the pressure.

On the other side of the globe in Saudi Arabia, Neymar made his debut for Al-Hilal and contributed to their impressive 6-1 victory over Al Riyadh. Neymar entered the match in the 64th minute and provided an assist for his Brazilian teammate Malcom, who scored Al-Hilal's fourth goal. Al-Hilal currently leads the Saudi league after six rounds, having secured 16 points from a possible 18.

Overall, it was a mixed weekend for these footballing giants, with Leverkusen showcasing their resilience against Bayern, PSG facing a challenging defeat, and Neymar making a positive impact in his debut for Al-Hilal.
