Leicester City marked a successful start under new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, defeating West Ham United 3-1 in the Premier League on Tuesday. The Foxes capitalized on their chances with goals from veteran Jamie Vardy, 20-year-old Bilal El Khannouss, and substitute Patson Daka. In contrast, a dominant West Ham side squandered several good opportunities, with Niclas Fuellkrug scoring a late consolation goal for the visitors.
Van Nistelrooy, who replaced Steve Cooper after Leicester's slow start to the season, was appointed just days before the match. Despite having limited time with the squad, his presence seemed to inject a new sense of fortune, as Leicester secured their first win in over six weeks. The result lifted them from just above the relegation zone to 15th, while West Ham remained one spot higher in the standings.
Leicester got off to a fast start, with Vardy scoring in the opening two minutes after he latched onto a perfectly timed pass. A VAR review confirmed his goal was valid, much to the relief of the home crowd. The Foxes' second came just after the hour mark, with El Khannouss finishing off a well-executed move that saw Kasey McAteer provide a perfect pass to break the West Ham defense.
West Ham had their moments but struggled to find the back of the net. In the 13th minute, Danny Ings came close with a header that hit the post after deflecting off Leicester's James Justin. In the second half, Leicester's Conor Coady made a crucial clearance off the line, denying Crysencio Summerville.
West Ham also had a scare when Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen misjudged a punch, but the referee ruled a free kick in Leicester's favor for a foul by Tomas Soucek.
The Hammers continued to press, and their persistence paid off in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Fuellkrug headed home to reduce the deficit. However, it was too little, too late for West Ham, as Leicester held on for a well-deserved 3-1 victory. The result put additional pressure on West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui, who is facing increasing scrutiny after the team's inability to convert chances.
