Leicester City Women have officially announced the departure of talented defender Ashleigh Plumptre after her contract concluded at the prestigious King Power Stadium.
Plumptre's departure signifies the end of her successful tenure with LCFC Women, which began in 2020 following her transition from the University of Southern California's USC Trojans after completing her Human Biology degree.
During the 2022/23 season, the 25-year-old showcased her skills and dedication, making 23 appearances in various competitions.
Notably, she played a significant role in LCFC Women's triumph as winners of the Barclays Women's Championship in 2021, marking their ascent to the top flight of women's football.
Throughout her time with LCFC Women, Plumptre exemplified her commitment and talent, donning the City blue jersey in an impressive 79 matches. Her contributions on the field made her a valued member of the squad.
Currently, Plumptre finds herself in the Nigerian camp, diligently preparing for the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, scheduled to start later this month.
After switching her international allegiance from England to Nigeria in 2021, the versatile defender represented the Super Falcons in the 2022 CAF Women Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco.
Although the team finished fourth without securing a medal, Plumptre remains determined to have a more rewarding experience this time around.
Nigeria's upcoming matches against Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland in the World Cup present a prime opportunity for Plumptre to showcase her skills and make her mark on the global stage, aiming to contribute to the team's success in the tournament.
