Lautaro Martinez secured his future with Inter Milan on Monday by signing a new contract that will keep him with the Serie A champions until 2029. Inter Milan confirmed the extension in an official statement, announcing that the 26-year-old forward has signed a deal that lasts until June 30, 2029. Following this contract extension, Martinez will reportedly earn a net salary of nine million euros per season, renewing a contract initially set to expire in two years.
Inter Milan’s president, Giuseppe Marotta, had previously mentioned that Lautaro had agreed to a new contract but was awaiting his return from the post-Copa America holidays for the announcement. Martinez was instrumental in Argentina’s successful Copa America campaign, scoring five goals, including the decisive goal in the final victory over Colombia.
This international success followed his pivotal role in leading Inter Milan to their second Serie A title in four seasons, ending the season a significant 19 points ahead of their city rivals AC Milan. Martinez was the top scorer in the league, netting 24 goals in 33 appearances and outscoring his nearest rival, Dusan Vlahovic, by eight goals.
Lautaro’s decision to remain with Inter Milan is a significant boost for the club, which faced uncertainty at the start of the off-season due to a change in ownership. Investment fund Oaktree took control of the club after the previous owners, Suning, defaulted on a loan repayment.
Despite these changes, Oaktree has focused on maintaining stability rather than pursuing major changes, replacing the former president Steven Zhang and his conglomerate Suning. This season, coach Simone Inzaghi also extended his contract with Inter until 2026, and star midfielder Nicolo Barella signed a new deal keeping him at the club until 2029, ahead of Euro 2024.
