LaLiga president Javier Tebas has outlined a potential solution for Barcelona to comply with the league's spending cap, suggesting that the club can navigate the financial constraints by transferring "two or three of their top-class players" to other clubs.
Recently, LaLiga reduced Barcelona's annual spending limit by €66 million ($71 million), from €270 million to €204 million. Barcelona faces a considerable challenge in the upcoming summer transfer window as their reported squad costs exceed the LaLiga-imposed limit, standing at around €400 million.
Tebas addressed concerns about Barcelona facing a situation similar to Ajax, a club known for producing talented players but struggling to retain them. Tebas dismissed such a scenario, expressing confidence that Barcelona will overcome their current challenges.
He emphasized the possibility for Barcelona to generate income and alleviate their financial situation by selling two or three of their top-class players, enabling the club to avoid accruing debt interest and meet their financial obligations.
Despite Tebas's suggestion, Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, indicated the club's intention not to sell any players for the 2024-25 campaign. Deco emphasized the goal of strengthening the team, stating that the club does not want to part with its current squad members.
Notably, players like Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi, and Ronald Araújo are considered essential for both the present and future, with existing contracts that indicate their commitment to stay with the club for the coming years. Barcelona aims to reinforce its squad without compromising its existing roster, showcasing a determination to build for the future.
