Lagosians get more viewing centres as LASG provides more

Posted : 14 January 2024

The Lagos State government announced on Saturday that the number of Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 viewing centres has been increased from 15 to 20. Mr. Damilare Orimoloye, Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sports, revealed this in an interview in Lagos.

Orimoloye, during the monthly ‘Keep Fit Lagos’ program organized by the state government, assured that Lagos residents would have more to cheer for during the AFCON matches.

“The decision to increase the AFCON viewing centres across Lagos State aligns with the THEME plus agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which emphasizes social inclusion.

The goal is to provide our people with the opportunity to go out and mingle while watching AFCON 2023; people will come out to interact with other football fans.

This project aims to enhance bonding and networking among our people in a more friendly environment.

We now have five additional centres added to the previous 15, making a total of 20 centres across Lagos, which will improve proximity so that more people will come out,” he said.

The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Oluwatoyin Gafaar, noted that more side attractions had been introduced at the viewing centres.

“Two years ago, we had 15, but this time around we are increasing it to 20 centres, and we will continue to expand.

The Lagos government is ready to provide all the needed support to the people as dictated by Governor Sanwo-Olu. We want to increase the atmosphere of bonding in Lagos State.

The centres will open at 3:00 p.m and will remain open until the last match is played. The centres are not only for Nigeria’s fixtures but for all the matches of AFCON 2023.

Other incentives include feeding for the spectators, drinks, popcorn, among others. It’s going to be an exciting moment for football fans in Lagos during AFCON 2023,” he assured.
