The Lagos State Football Association has announced the appointment of a new secretary, following the redeployment of its former secretary, Akeem Rabiu-Okikiopusu, by the Lagos State Sports Commission.
At its emergency board meeting, the Lagos FA ratified the choice of Mrs. Vera Hycient Okechukwu as the LSFA Secretary. With her appointment, she became the second female secretary since the inception of Lagos FA and one of only three female secretaries in Nigeria.
The LSFA remarked that the appointment of the new secretary was based on the Lagos State Football Association 2023 Statutes, as amended under section 5d, which empowers it to appoint a substantive secretary.
The appointment was ratified unanimously by the 10 board members at the emergency meeting.
Okechukwu has served under different secretaries and has demonstrated her capacity over the years.
She has worked in various roles at different clubs, including as Assistant Secretary at Bayelsa Football Club, Team Manager at Cerezo Queens Ilorin, and Administrative Officer at Pepsi Football Academy, under the tutelage of the late Coach Kashimawo Laloko.
She holds a BSc in Physical and Health Education from Lagos State University and an Advanced Certificate in Sports Management from the National Institute of Sports.
