Lagos fans hail Kano Pillars' veteran striker Rabiu Ali for his dedication

Posted : 07 November 2023
Lagos fans showered encomiums on Kano Pillars' veteran striker, Rabiu Ali, following the Match Day 7 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match.

The excited fans swarmed Kano Pillars' captain, Ali, after the Match Day 7 and also praised his 12-year dedication to the team.

The Match Day 7 match, played at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, attracted several members of the Hausa community in Lagos who came to support the visiting Sai Masu Gida side.

The game, however, ended 3-0 as the Tech Boys finished the match, with all the goals coming in the first half, in the 12th, 29th, and 36th minutes against the Kano travelers.

Former Kano Pillars hitman and highest goal scorer, Junior Lokosa, emerged as the man of the match with a brace in the 11th and 31st minutes against his former team, while his partner, Jonathan Alukwu, scored in the 26th minute.

Regardless of the scoreline, the Hausa community and some Lagos fans swarmed around the legendary Ali, who is considered the oldest player in the league still playing actively at 43 years, having joined Kano Pillars in 2011.

Some of the fans expressed their delight at seeing the three-time league winner, fondly called Pele, as they praised his longevity in the league, even though he failed to score in the match.

Auwal Kadri commended the old horse for his dedication to Kano Pillars.

"We all like Rabiu because of his loyalty to the club; he has stayed with the club for so many years despite many clubs wanting him. He was unlucky not to have scored against Sporting Lagos FC today because the defenders denied him," he said.

Another fan, Sani Kunmi, said seeing Ali was an inspiration to him, having heard about him from his father.

"I came all the way from Agege to see him; it's been a while since he came to Lagos last, maybe during the time MFM FC used to play in Lagos. My father, who knew him well, said a lot about him, how he used to dribble well. I can see how good he is today in spite of his age," he said.
